Course Introduction
The Health and Safety Management revalidation course refreshes key health and safety requirements across leisure, sport, recreation, and culture and heritage settings. It builds on existing knowledge and reinforces the skills needed to manage these diverse environments effectively and confidently.
It is aimed at Duty Officers, Assistant Managers and Managers (or those who occasionally cover these roles) who have completed the Health and Safety Management Certificate in Leisure and Culture within the last three years. The course uses sector-specific scenarios drawn from a wide range of environments, including sports centres, health clubs, gyms, swimming pools, and culture and heritage venues such as museums, galleries, and visitor attractions.
The training is delivered by experienced leisure professionals and health and safety experts with extensive expertise in the sector. The team brings a strong background in both operational practice and consultancy, ensuring the content is practical, relevant, and aligned with recognised professional standards, with senior members also listed on national consultant registers.
The course provides a structured refresher of key health and safety principles, covering legal responsibilities and recent updates to relevant legislation, alongside best practice approaches to organising for safety, including the application of HSG65. It revisits essential aspects of planning and implementation, with a focus on risk assessment and key hazard areas such as fire, electricity, noise, asbestos, and working at height, before concluding with methods for measuring performance through both active and reactive monitoring.
