QLM Leisuresafe™ is an independent health and safety audit and management certification tailored specifically for the sport, leisure, culture and hospitality industries. It offers a unique opportunity to gain recognition for effective health and safety practices while reducing operational risks, highlighting organisations that systematically implement safety measures in line with legislative requirements and best industry practices.
Established in 2006, QLM Leisuresafe™ was created to recognize and promote good health and safety practices within the sport, leisure, culture and hospitality sectors. With Quality Leisure Managements extensive auditing experience, this certification process not only promotes high standards but also provides senior management with a platform to demonstrate their commitment to safety.
Certification involves a comprehensive audit of the health and safety arrangements at your facility. Achieving a minimum score of 65% is required for certification, which remains valid for two years

- Perth Leisure Pool
- Ice Sheffield
- The Alban Arena, St Albans

The on-site assessment covers three key areas:
- Health and safety management, including objectives, risk assessments, and monitoring.
- Facility-wide hazards, such as COSHH, electrical safety, and contractor management.
- Specific hazard management for areas like swimming pools, gymnasiums, and maintenance operations.
This thorough evaluation ensures that your facility meets both legal and industry standards.
Assessments are carried out by experienced leisure professionals who are all qualified leisure health and safety consultants who provide such a service with leisure industry professional qualifications as members or fellows of the Charter Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (MCIMSPA or FCIMSPA respectively) and a minimum of Graduate membership of IOSH (Cert IOSH) who are working towards chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH). CMIOSH team members are listed on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR)
The assessment typically spans up to two days, involving interviews with key staff, process observations, and documentation reviews, ensuring a thorough audit of your facility’s compliance with legal and best practice requirements.
Initially exclusive to organisations registered with Quality Leisure Management, QLM Leisuresafe™ has been open to all sport, leisure, culture and hospitality facilities since 2012.
Each assessment area is scored out of 10, with certain areas weighted more heavily, such as swimming pools. An overall score is calculated, with 65% being the minimum required for certification.
Upon successful assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report with risk reduction recommendations and a registration certificate endorsed by Quality Leisure Management Ltd.
