After deciding that PE teaching was not for her, Shenagh began her career within the leisure industry as a recreation assistant at her local recreation centre where she studied for her Institute of Baths and Recreation Management (IBRM) qualifications and progressed from Area Recreation Manager through to managing her own facility. From there she moved to the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) now CIMSPA, where she managed the qualifications and training programmes, worked with governing bodies to develop quality standards and also assisted facilities with training and health and safety issues. Taking on her next role with the Governments’ Nationals Training Organisation for Sport and Recreation she then built on her network of contacts to successfully coordinate a project funded through the European Social Fund in the East Midlands to develop and provide training opportunities and qualifications within the sector
On completion of the project she then further developed her health and safety career by gaining her NEBOSH certificate becoming a technical member of the Institute.
Additional projects that she has worked on include carrying out safety audits for clients and was also the lead consultant for a national organisation looking at the implementation of assisted lifeguard technology throughout their facilities. Shenagh has also worked as a Quest Assessor and was a lead auditor for the ILAM Ireland White Flag Award, for the Leisure, Health and Fitness sector. Shenagh is also a qualified lead auditor for ISO 9001.
She currently now works with QLM in an administrative role and In her (little) spare time she is a presiding officer for local and national elections, a volunteer with Natural England and is part of the safety management team for the World Conker Championships.
